Students in the Lancer Pride Marching Band bring energy and excitement to home football games, marching competitions, local parades, and special events. Participation in this ensemble requires dedication, as students must attend after-school rehearsals two to three times per week, as well as band camp in late July and early August. A key benefit of joining the Marching Band is that students can earn a P.E. waiver. If they participate all four years, they will not need to take High School P.E.
Designed for students at beginning and intermediate performance levels, the Concert Band emphasizes foundational skill building and the performance of repertoire appropriate for early high school musicians. While participation in Marching Band is not required for Concert Band members, it is highly encouraged to enhance their musical experience.
As the top ensemble in the band program, the Wind Ensemble is an audition-only group that performs intermediate to advanced high school-level repertoire. Students in this ensemble participate in multiple concerts and festivals throughout the year, showcasing their refined musical skills.
The Jazz Band is one of the most dynamic and entertaining ensembles in the program. Students perform a diverse range of musical styles, including swing, funk, bossa nova, rock, contemporary, and Latin music. To participate in Jazz Band, students must also be members of either Concert Band or Wind Ensemble.
Tailored specifically for percussion students, the Percussion Ensemble serves as their dedicated class instead of another band ensemble. The curriculum focuses on developing percussion techniques across various instruments, including marching battery, snare drum, timpani, mallets, auxiliary instruments, and drum set.
The Color Guard (Flag Team) is a visually striking component of the band program. Students in this group develop dance fundamentals, movement techniques, and proficiency with various pieces of color guard equipment. During the fall, the Color Guard performs with the Marching Band, adding a visual element to the show. In the winter, the Color Guard competes as an independent group in both local and out-of-state competitions.
